The Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC) was extremely proud to host the 20th consecutive Pakistan Sunsilk Fashion Week last month in collaboration with it's title sponsor Sunsilk. It is an annual fashion event which presents an extravagant show that fits to international standards and highlights the best of Pakistani fashion. The purpose is to bring the best of fashion trends for each season, all under one roof, showcased by well-established, emerging and debut designers. PFDC works with industry professionals, designers, sponsors and partners that assist in curating a show that enhances their fashion week platforms while helping them maintain the standard of the shows. Back with it's 20th edition, it always promises to bring something new and exciting for the fashion industry and this year was no exception. As always, the show’s schedule included big names as well as upcoming designers.

The gorgeous 26-year old Maham Amjad, a member of the famous Instagram Star list and has earned a large following on her Instagram account hosted the Pakistan Sunsilk Fashion Week and strutted down the blue carpet during the event’s first day in a fully white sequin covered mermaid dress with light beige pink underlining from ESCHEL. Truly the best look and impressed us all once again with eye-catching dress details and fashion forward design that fit for the glamour and sparkle of the event.

Nothing makes a statement like a sparkly dress and mermaid cut dresses continue to reign supreme which makes them top choices for all kinds of parties and events. Our ANGELO dress combined these two styles together creating elegance with a glamorous twist. It’s classic silhouette is quite simple and refined and the beauty is in the details. This dress never fails to impress, so flattering and has a very pretty way of highlighting the body’s figure. The back opens up to a high slit which adds a touch of red carpet glam. There’s undeniably something about being in a dress that sparkles; all that glitz, glam, shimmer and sweetness!

The number one rule to follow is that sequins are bold and eye-catching, so let the dress stand on it's own. You can keep your accessories toned down and let the dress do the talking, just like the model did on our photoshoot. If you keep the rest of your look low key, the dress will keep the focus on you!

Dresses and styles reflect the culture, outlook, values and indeed the evolution of a society over time and Pakistan is no different. Fashion in Pakistan is constantly evolving, giving aspiring designers a platform to showcase their talent. The renaissance of Pakistani fashion in the past five years has been the result of a seismic cultural shift where women are becoming more educated and independent with increased access to opportunities in the work place, and many are expressing their newfound socio-cultural freedom and economic power through fashion.

“People think the women are very oppressed, but we have a very strong cultural identity which is represented by our clothes. It’s not so much about projecting a positive image, but more a case of projecting a real image of what we are,” says fashion designer Fahad Hussayn.
